There is a large variety of CAD software out there that you can use to do architecture on. AutoCAD, one of the most popular, is a good tool (that we use often at our business) and is quite easy to use once you get the hang of it. Engineers, architects, students, and many others are quite familiar with AutoCAD due to it's popularity and flexibility. One thing AutoCAD doesn't have that is quite unfortunate (for the architects) is it's lack of BIM tools in comparison to other types of software (mostly Revit). While you can do a lot in AutoCAD it can take a long time and the process for creating structures can be time consuming if you don't know what you're doing. In the end, you can have a fantastic structure in AutoCAD, but you can make the same structure in Revit in significantly less time. So what is Revit? Revit is a program that is specifically geared towards architecture and design. While you may be thinking "well, isn't AutoCAD as well?" than the answer is yes, but AutoCAD is, again, a more generic program that has a lot of uses and functions. Much like how Civil3D is AutoCAD but geared towards civil works design, Revit is like AutoCAD but geared towards architectural design. Revit is a powerful tool, and it's one that's important to learn if you plan on getting into architecture. For those who know AutoCAD learning Revit is easier, but you can learn Revit without much knowledge of AutoCAD. We plan on releasing a Revit course in Q2 of 2024 to help those who don't know, or want to know more about, Revit. It will be much like our Civil3D course in that it will deal with a lot of program specific issues and how to overcome them, while also teaching you how to use the program at a basic level. Course information will be released when our Public Release Schedule is sent out within the next two weeks. If you want more information on this course, send us an email at admin@verweydraftinginc.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
